Week 8 update

Welcome to week 8 in B3

Grief
Do you know what grief is? B3 does. This week in B3 for health we have been learning about what grief means. We did a brainstorm of what we think grief means. These are some of the ideas we came up with sorrow, feelings and lots other words. We talked about how we have felt when something sad happened to us and we came up with heaps of feelings words. Then we thought about having a mixture of feelings and we all know that it ok to have a mixture of feelings but we need to know how to deal with those feelings in a positive way. Some of the ideas we came up with for dealing with grief are;
  • Having some time alone
  • Going for a walk
  • Reading a book
  • Having a hot bath
  • Going to a special place
Do you know that grief is fun to learn about. I hope you feel the same.

Fraction games
You will not believe what we got to do in B3 this week. We got to make our very own fraction games. First we put together a draft and then we made a good copy. We had to include the materials needed to play the game and instructions. We tested our games with other people to make sure they could follow the instructions with our help. Then Miss Robinson laminated them for us. They look AWESOME! After that we presented them to the class and got the chance to have a go at other games people made.

Week 7 Update

Welcome to week 7 in B3

We have started looking change grief and loss. We have been looking at changes that we have experienced in our lives. We made a picture about changes we had as a baby, todler, 5 year old and now.

Rugby
We've been looking at rugby 100years ago. Did you know they had a round ball? We have also been looking at what rugby will be like in the future. We got to design our own futuristic rugby game.

Week 6 update

Welcome to our week 6 update.

Over and over it goes.
Zooming fast! Rocket on blast. The ball comes flying. WATCH OUT! Guess what? We have been practising how to do over arm throwing. This is how we did it
  • AIM
  • Ball under chin
  • Wind up
  • FIRE!
It seems pretty simple but really it takes a bit to get used to. So if you want to learn how to throw this will help you. We had heaps of fun doing it and we hope you do to.
By Paddy, Tessa, Amber and Geneva

Glogsters
This week in reading we got to make glogsters about our chapter books. We included information about the book and some pictures and what we thought about the book. It was lots of fun!
By Luka, Mihi and Myah P

It has finally arrived
Guess what? In B3 this week we have been making weetbix cards. On the cards there are dragons, fire, lions, flags and other stuff, we have been working hard to get them finished. We have also learnt about itinerarys. An itinerary is when you plan places to go.
By Krystal, Ophelia, Hamish and Tristan

Mascots
We have been making mascots for the rugby world cup. We have been making them out of recylced materials. First we constructed them with the recycled materials next we began to paper mache them. Paper mache has been the best bit so far. We got really slippery and gooey hands/
By Adam, Luka and Brayden

Rockets
This week in reading we read The Queen of Spain. They went on a make believe trip. So we made our own rockets to go on our own make believe trip. It was heaps of fun!

Welcome to the week 4 update!

Kia Ora and welcome to B3's weekly update.

The mystery of the missing puzzle piece.
You are never going to believe what had happened in B3 when we arrived at school on Tuesday morning... Someone very sneaky snuck in and took one of our puzzle pieces from off the wall. (You can see the pieces in one of our earlier updates.) We are not sure who took the puzzle piece but it is our job to find out. On Tuesday morning Miss Robinson found a clue on her desk and on Wedndesday one of the B3 students found a clue. Can you guess who it was? It was Geneva she found the clue stuck to the filing cabinet. The two clues that we have so far tell us that...
  • They live in Reeftton
  • Their favourite colour is blue.
Do you have any ideas about who it might be?
Once we have got our clues and we think we know who took the puzzle piece we have to write who we think did it and why. We will need to try and prove and convice others that the suspect we think is guilty is the one who commited the crime. We have also learnt what some words like, suspect, crime, evidence and guilty mean.

Poi making
During the week this week we made poi. We started by choosing a pair to work with. Then we had to work together to follow the instructions. We will tell you the steps we took to make the poi so that you can have a go making them at home if you like.
  1. Cut 3 pieces of string 60cm long (ours were red, black and white as these are traditional maori colours)
  2. Plat the string (One person hold two of the pieces of string and the other do the looping, unless you can do it by yourself that is)
  3. Screw up old bits of newspaper or tissue
  4. Cover the tissue or newspaper in plastic bags.
  5. Wrap string around to tie them up
  6. Play with them
We had a great playing with them and we can't wait to learn how to use them as actions to a waiata.

Bookmarks
This week we made some fabulous bookmarks. We got to choose what colour paper we would make them on and what we wanted to draw on them. We were even allowecd to cut bits out if we wanted. Don't they look great?

Maggies week!
This week Maggie has been learning HEAPS! She has been counting and adding numbers together. She has also been tossing coins and counting up the ones that are heads and the ones that are tails. Maggie has also been reading Old McDonald had a farm. She did such a fantastic job she even managed to get an award in assembly for it. Today Maggie made us all Daffodils for Daffodil Day, they look awesome.

Today was Emily's birthday and she brung some cake to school for us to share. It was DELICIOUS!! Thanks Emily.

Today at school we had a daffodil themed day in support of the cancer society and people suffering from cancer. We done cool things like mazes, wordfinds, colouring in and maths challenges. We had such a great day!

Daffodil Day Fraction Maths Challenge.
Guess what we did in B3 this morning? We had a maths challenge, it was a race. We had to pick someone to be the runner and they were the person who took our completed questions up to Miss Robinson to get another one. It was a race to see who would be the first team to complete all questions. Geneva and her team won. Although Miss Robinson said we all did sooooo well because every team was able to answer all of the questions.

By Joberth and Krystal

Hey everybody,
Do you know what we did this afternoon? We coloured in a daffodil picture and stuck it on a coloured piece of paper and wrote a special message on them. Some of the special messages we wrote are; don't lose hope, stay strong, keep smiling, don't worry be happy, stay happy, keep fighting, don't give up on your dreams, always remember you family and friends love you and be happy. We are going to send our posters to people with cancer so they can look at them and remember to stay positive. We hope they like them. So if you are reading this and you have cancer or something else wrong with you keeping fighting and stay strong (and all the other messages) you will get through it in the end.

Also today as a reading task we read in groups about the Cancer Society and Daffodil Day. We had to read through the information and pick out parts that we thought would be important for our posters. Once we had read it we choose the information we thought was important and used that and pictures we drew to make a poster. Miss Robinson said she is going to send pictures of them to the Cancer Society because they look great.

In assembly today we sung the two Waiata that we have been learning with Miss Marquet.
"Your singing was awesome, you should be very proud B3." Miss Robinson.

By B3 thanks for reading.

Week 3 update!!

Kia Ora and welcome to our week 3 update in B3!

On Monday it was exciting because it was snowing. Miss Robinson took us outside and we threw snowballs at each other. After that Miss Robinson took photos of us in the snow.

Also when it was snowing we went outside while it was snowing and sung A haka ma the maori waiata we have been learning. While we were outside Maggie made a snowman.

Guess what we have been writing about??? THE SNOW!! We got to write about our adventures in the snow. We also wrote snow poems when the kids on the bus went home early and we shared them in assembly.

ZAP!!! This week we learnt a really cool literacy game called zap! If you don't know how to play it here's the deal. If you pull out a stick with a word on it and you can read it you get to keep it. If you can't read it you have to put it back. If you pull out a stick with ZAP on it you have to put all your sticks back.

We learnt another cool game this week. It's called greedy pig. You play it by getting a piece of paper to write on. Somebody rolls a dice and you have to keep writing the numbers down as they are called and adding them up if you can. If you think there is going to be a 2 rolled you sit down, if a 2 is rolled you win but if not you are out and the game continues.

In B3 this week we have learnt about other countries flags. We got given flags to colour in the right colours. We did a great job!

We have also been learning about the history of rugby in New Zealand. We made a time line that is up on the wall.

Kia Ora. We have been learning some maori games in B3. The games are called Hipitoitoi and Hei tama tu tama. Our class loves the maori games, well most of us anyway. Some of us are really good at them and some of us don't seem to have much luck at winning. Mihi is really good at saying the starting words of the games. We have a lot of fun playing the games. Thank you for reading what we have been up to.

This week Maggie made a spider. Doesn't it look awesome.

In assembly Ben got to choose 3 friends to come up on the stage with him, he didn't know what it was for until Mr Wright put the Duffy Song on the they had to dance.

Tigers Shoe Making
Guess what? Luka, Ophelia, Mihi and Krystal made shoes this week for reading because we read an article called 'These boots are made for walking.' First we got shoe boxes and we cut a hole to put our feet in. Then we decorated the outside and stuffed the inside with newspaper to make them comfy.
By Ophelia, Luka and Mihi

Fractions
Also this week we found out our awesome names that Miss Robinson gave our maths groups, they are the Fabulous Fractions, Dazzling Decimals, Perky Percentages, and the Prancing Proportions. Did you know these names have alliteration? We have been doing all sorts of cool things in maths including cutting up and sharing wafers evenly.
By Ophelia, Luka and Mihi

Singing
Guess what? You'll never guess what we have been doing with Miss Marquet... We have been singing maori songs like, A haka ma and Whakarongo ake au. We might share it in assembly soon because Miss Robinson heard us practising and thinks we sounded really good and so does Miss Marquet.
By Amber, Paddy, Krystal B and Hannah

Culture Wheels
Not only have we been singing but we have also been learning about other cultures with Miss Marquet. All people have different cultures and personalitites. In our class we have lots of different cultures and personalities.
By Amber, Paddy, Krystal B and Hannah

Rugby World Cup
Did you know it is the Rugby World Cup this year and even better it is in NEW ZEALAND!! We have been learning a little bit about the rugby world cup and who will be coming to New Zealand to play. We found out that the following teams will be competing, NZ (The best), France, Tonga, Canada, Japan, Argentina, England, Scotland, Georgia, Romania, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Russia, USA, South Africa, Wales, Fiji, Samoa and Namibia. We are going to have lots of visitors from all around the world in NZ.

Miss Robinsons Birthday
Guess what on Monday it was Miss Robinsons birthday. We suprised her by singing happy birthday to her, she thought we were pretty awesome. Then she gave us wafers which was awesome then we had some fruit.
By Darcy, Brayden, Joberth and Hamish

Lunchtime Fun
It was an ordinary week apart from Geneva, Myah, Tessa, Maggie and Emily played stiff candles during lunchtime. We played it in the classroom because it has been too wet or too cold to go outside. We couldn't wait until lunchtime arrived and after quickly eating our lunch the music went on and the crazy dancing started.
For those of you who do not know how to play stiff candles listen up.
1) Put the rocking music on
2) Start dancing
3) Have someone to start and stop the music because when the music stops you have to freeze untill the music is turned back on. If you move you are out.
4) Play fair and have fun!
We had lots of fun having our rocking week! What sorts of games do you play on a wet day in your classroom?
By Geneva, Myah, Maggie, Emily and Tessa

Maggies week
Maggie has had an awesome week, she has been up to all sorts of fun things. Maggie learnt how to blow bubbles, she had a great time blowing bubbles all around the school. The bubbles were fun to watch go POP! This week Maggie made her very own train circuit with paper and egg cartons, and it even had a tunnel. She has also been busy taking pictures around the school and then writing about some of her photos. Today Miss Robinson and Maggie played Dora spelling games on the interactive whiteboard, Maggie was soooo good at them!

Kia Ora

Hello and welcome to our new blog, we think it's pretty awesome and we hope you like it too. We go to Reefton Area School, our class is made up of year 3,4 and 5 students.  We hope you like looking around our blog and keeping up to date with what's happening in B3.

Our classroom has changed this term. We have a new teacher, our desks are set out differently, there is new stuff on the walls and we have some new things in our room too. We now have a teachers assistant, who takes the roll each day and does other jobs to help out Miss Robinson. We also have couch potatoes that get to sit on the couch for the day when we are on the mat. We can get picked if we are sitting nicely on the mat.

These are the friendship flowers we made. We started by brainstorming words about what it means to be a good friend and what a good friendship needs. Then we chose 6 words to put 1 in each petal of our flower. After that we decorated them with all different colours. DON'T THEY LOOK AWESOME!!!

Have fun looking at our blog! Come again soon!
